24 April — 29 May 2026
Our Very Fabric is the first exhibition to be presented at The Generator and takes inspiration from the region’s long connection to textile making and creative education.
Curated by our Community Engagement Coordinator Pasha Kincaid, the exhibition explores the many forms of making historically connected to the Old Art School and Generator spaces. Through weaving, pattern cutting, textiles, fashion, basketry, photographic processes, design, and printmaking, the exhibition reflects on the skills, materials, and creative practices that have shaped the building over time.
Bringing together works by Purnima Chavda, Maggie Cooper, Beth Lukockyj, Nita Rao, and Selene States, the exhibition also features contributions co-created by Jemma Bagley, James Chantry, local art students, and community groups. Together these works respond to the building’s heritage while celebrating the ongoing role of creative making within the community.
Visitors will encounter installations and artworks that use the full scale of the building, including opportunities to engage directly with textile processes through a programme of workshops including weaving, basketry, sock knitting, and block printing.
