Discover the extraordinary story behind the Alexandra Bedspread, a remarkable community artwork created between 1922 and 1923 to help fund the construction of Loughborough's iconic Carillon Tower.
Comprising more than 500 embroidered signatures—including those of Queen Alexandra and Winston Churchill—the bedspread offers a unique snapshot of the people who shaped the town in the years following the First World War.
Lead researcher Deborah Moxom will share the stories uncovered through years of research, revealing the lives of local shopkeepers, nurses, factory workers and community figures whose names are stitched into this historic textile.
Following the talk, Dr Jill Vincent will host a live Q&A exploring the bedspread's wider significance, including its connections to Herbert Morris, Dr Schofield and the people behind the creation of The Generator.
