Environmental Responsibility.

We understand that the arts have the power to influence and inspire change, and we believe that it is our duty to lead by example in preserving our planet for the next generations.

Our aim is to make The Generator net carbon zero in terms of energy use.  The building (pre-renovation) is currently totally uninsulated. It has single glazing and uninsulated external doors. It was heated using gas and oil boilers, with extra heat provided by electrical heaters. All lighting is either incandescent or fluorescent. The gas supply, oil tanks and services will be stripped out.

As part of the renovation, the building will be highly insulated to meet or exceed building regulation standards. The existing windows will be secondary glazed. New external doors will be insulated, and new double glazed rooflights will be installed. Renewables will be installed including: 68m2 of photovoltaics, and modern air source heat pumps. The ventilation system will use heat recovery. Lighting will be 100% LED with sensor-controlled switching.

In further pursuit of this commitment, we will adopt sustainable practices throughout our operations and will continually strive to improve our environmental performance through minimising waste, conserving energy and responsibly sourcing materials wherever possible.

Our programmes and exhibitions will explore themes related to environmental conservation, climate change and the beauty of the natural world. Through these initiatives, our goal is to raise awareness and inspire action on critical environmental issues.
